What is the MIN function?

The main function is categorised under Excel statistical functions. This function will return the minimum value in a given list of arguments or arrays. The main function is very useful in financial modelling to calculate debt schedules and depreciation schedules. It can be used as a worksheet function (WS) in Excel. The MIN function can be entered as a part of a formula in a cell of a worksheet.

How does the MIN function work?

 

  • Syntax:

         MIN( number1, [number2, …… number_n])

  • Parameters:
  1. Number1 – IT can be a number, named range, array, or a reference number
  2. Number2 – These are numeric values that can be numbers, named ranges, arrays, or references to numbers. This is an optional parameter.
  • Returns:

          The MIN function returns a numeric value

  • Applies to:

          Excel for Office 365, Excel 2019, Excel 2016, Excel 2013, Excel 2011 for Mac, Excel 2010, Excel 2007, Excel 2003, Excel XP, Excel 2000
