What is the Excel ROUNDDOWN function?

While performing any kind of financial analysis, it is often very useful to round down a number to decimal place or whole number. With the help of the Excel ROUNDDOWN function, this task can be achieved very easily. The Microsoft Excel ROUNDDOWN function returns a number rounded down to a specified number of digits. This is a built-in function in Excel and is categorized as a Math/Trig Function. It can also be used as a worksheet (WS) function in Microsoft Excel. The ROUNDDOWN function can be entered as a part of a formula in the cell of the worksheet.

How does the Excel ROUNDDOWN function work?

  • Syntax:

ROUNDDOWN( number, digits)

  • Parameters:
  1. Number – the number to round down
  2. Digits – The number of digits to round the number down to
  • Returns:

The ROUNDDOWN function returns a numeric value.
